Mission Statement
DACCO is working for a drug-free community: one person, one family at a time.
Vision Statement
DACCO’s image is synonymous with drug-free living, setting the standard for excellence in Behavioral Health.
Core Values/Goals
To fulfill DACCO’s mission and vision, we adhere to these core values:
* To deliver the highest quality services that respect the dignity of each person served: employees, volunteers, and visitors.
* To demonstrate a compassionate, caring attitude and achieve consistently higher levels of service by responding to each individual in a timely, professional, and courteous manner.
* To sustain a positive, caring, supportive safety-first environment.
* We are committed to being an inclusive organization where all people are treated fairly and recognized for their individuality. We believe in recognizing, understanding, and respecting differences among all people. Every individual at DACCO has an ongoing responsibility to advance diversity.
Because DACCO has such a broad variety of programs to include prevention, outpatient and residential treatment, and aftercare, universal goals are unrealistic. The following list includes goals and outcomes for Prevention Services.
* To improve overall family cohesion and communication
* To reduce the likelihood that a youth will engage in risky behavior
* To improve the youth and parent’s relationship with school
* To improve peer relationships
* To engage youth in their neighborhood and community through positive activities
* To reduce the incidence of substance abuse and misuse among youth and adults
* To engage parents and empower them to invest in their children’s future
History
DACCO was incorporated as a nonprofit agency in 1973 through the leadership of representatives from the City of Tampa and Hillsborough County governments, Tampa Chamber of Commerce, United Way and other organizations in Tampa. Originally, DACCO provided drug abuse planning, coordination, and monitoring for local governmental units. In 1975, DACCO received funding to provide drug treatment services. Since that time, DACCO has evolved into an expansive, comprehensive, community-based substance abuse service system.
As the needs of the community have evolved, so has DACCO’s programs to include recovery support services, community outreach, aftercare, and opiate maintenance programs. DACCO also provides housing support, via apartments owned by DACCO, which is offered to families based on availability.
The agency provides services to children, youth, adolescents, and adults, as well as to the co-occurring population (mental health/substance abuse) and the homeless community.
DACCO has a strong history of receiving exemplary ratings on accreditation site visits as well as scores greater than 90% on all licensure and financial monitoring visits. DACCO has remained dedicated to the provision of prevention, intervention, substance abuse, and co-occurring services to ensure that all members of the community have access to fair and impartial prevention and treatment services.
Accreditation
DACCO programs are licensed for treatment, prevention and intervention services by the Florida Department of Children and Families and are monitored for compliance to licensure standards annually. In addition, DACCO programs have been accredited through the national Rehabilitation Accreditation Commission (CARF) continuously since 1994. In 2006, DACCO was awarded a three-year award – the highest possible recognition for continuous quality improvement. This achievement is recognized as an industry standard for quality and is an indicator of excellence in the programs accredited.
Finally, programs that DACCO operate which are supported through public funds also meet established goals and objectives of the following:
* Strategic goals adopted by the Hillsborough County Board of County Commissioners
* Strategic plan of the Children’s Board of Hillsborough County
* Strategic plan of the United Way of Tampa Bay
* Florida Department of Children and Families Agency Strategic Plan
* Florida Drug Control Strategy/Office of the Governor
* National Drug Control Strategy/Office of the President
